  • Japanese rice 1 cup
  • Small Red Bean 200g (Optional)
  • Brown sugar 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Glutinous rice flour 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Melted butter 3 teaspoons
  • Condensed Vanilla 1/2 teaspoon

Make the Cake:
  1. Soak the Japanese rice and small red beans(in separate bowls) in water for overnight.
  2. Boil the red beans with 5 cups of water until you can't see the water from the surface. (Actually there's still some juice inside.) Don't blend the red beans while you boil them. Boil them until the grains are soft but unbroken. Ignore this step you don't use red beans.
  1. Drain the soaked rice dry and add a cup of water then grind by blender for 3 minutes.
  2. Pour (c) and sugar in a big bowl and blend them well. Then add the glutinous rice flour slowly (Don't add altogether), blend them well until stickier than the honey.
  1. Pour (b) into (d) and blend them again to well-mixed.
  2. Pour (e) into the disposable bakery trays. Be sure to make the surface flat.(Fill the mixed dough to 2/3 height of the tray.)

  • Steam (f) for 1 and 1/2 hour.
  • Take the steamed cake out and set them aside until it cool down.
  • Cut the cold cake to small pieces and you can serve the cake now, or deep fry the cake.
Deep fry the cake
  • Blend 1/2 cup of flour with an egg and some water, sugar and salt to make the sticky dough (batter).
  • Wrap the cut small pieces of cake by the sticky dough then deep fry them until the surfaces turn golden brown and ready for serving.
